SGI320

Overview

The SGI320/540 Visual Workstations were released in 1999 by Silicon Graphics® to compete with other Windows NT computers at the time. The system’s proprietary architecture combined a Unified Memory Architecture, revolutionary video features and tremendous bandwidth for the time.

Just like many other vintage computers, to this day the SGI320/540 has a small but enthusiastic following. From movie makers to imaging professionals, these people are still finding ways to expand and utilise these workstations, going so far as replacing the entire guts of the system with newer and faster components!

The purpose of this website is to provide answers to common questions surrounding these unique workstations. Likewise, if you have new you’d like to share, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have fun and be creative.320_small
